AT&T upgrades, renames on-demand services offering

AT&T has announced that it has changed the name of its AT&T Network Functions on Demand offering to AT&T FlexWare. The service provider also has added a new device option, enhanced feature functionality, and expanded global availability.

AT&T has announced that it has changed the name of its AT&T Network Functions on Demand offering to AT&T FlexWare. The service provider also has added a new device option, enhanced feature functionality, and expanded global availability.

AT&T FlexWare enables business customers to set up multiple virtual network functions (VNFs), such as a router and a firewall, on a single FlexWare device and deploy them in different countries. AT&T offers an online portal to enable customer to manage these VNFs.

"AT&T FlexWare offers businesses flexible networking options," said Roman Pacewicz, senior vice president, Offer Management and Service Integration, AT&T Business Solutions. "One size fits all doesn't allow businesses to compete. Our software-centric ecosystem allows businesses to start with one set of network functions and add as they go. We're empowering businesses to control and change their services to match their needs across the world."

As part of the enhancements, AT&T FlexWare now offers two device form factors. A new small device can run up to two VNF applications; the already fielded larger version runs up to four and remains available. The additional options enable delivery of virtualized applications and devices to businesses of all sizes, the service provider asserts.

AT&T also says it has added Palo Alto Networks' security platform to its catalog of VNFs. The service provider says it can now offer AT&T FlexWare capabilities in more than 150 countries and territories.

AT&T says that more than 1,700 businesses have signed up for AT&T Network on Demand offerings since the capability launched (see "AT&T touts SDN-based business services" and "AT&T adds Internet services to Network on Demand offering").
