Windstream (NASDAQ: WIN) has selected the Coriant Groove G30 DCI Platform to support its data center interconnect requirements in the New York metropolitan area, the two companies have announced. Coriant also will supply its Transport Network Management System (TNMS).

Windstream (NASDAQ: WIN) has selected the Coriant Groove G30 DCI Platform to support its data center interconnect requirements in the New York metropolitan area, the two companies have announced. Coriant also will supply its Transport Network Management System (TNMS).

Coriant won the contract because of its density, power efficiency, and modular design, according to the announcement. The modular design offers low initial deployment costs and reduced sparing costs, as well as programmability and the ability to scale cost-effectively, the two companies added.

"Rising traffic volumes and dynamic workloads between data centers in major metro markets like New York City are rapidly redefining performance criteria for 100G connectivity," said Jeff Brown, director of wholesale marketing for Windstream. "Windstream continues to demonstrate compelling differentiation in our highly available transport solutions by tapping into cutting-edge innovations in high-speed optics, and with the introduction of Coriant's Groove G30 DCI Platform, the efficiency and scalability of our 100G service is made available to an even broader base of wholesale and enterprise customers, including a recent deployment of ten 100G waves for a major, worldwide content provider. The cost-effective Groove G30 DCI Platform, with its simple and rapid installation process, offers our customers tremendous benefits, augmenting their own infrastructures to support surging demand for bandwidth."

Coriant introduced the Groove G30 in December 2015 (see "Coriant Groove G30 1RU data center interconnect platform offers 3.2 Tbps"). The 1RU platform used in the New York deployment features 100-Gbps client-side interfaces and 200-Gbps line-side optics that leverage the company's CloudWave Optics technology.

Coriant recently introduced open line system capabilities for the platform as well (see "Coriant offers 1RU open line system for data center interconnect").
