VI Systems offers 56-Gbps NRZ laser driver and transimpedance amplifier for CEI-56G applications

VI Systems GmbH has launched a new generation of VCSEL (vertical surface emitting laser) driver and limiting transimpedance amplifier (TIA) chip for 56 Gbit/s Non-Return-to-Zero (NRZ) modulation. Designed for Non-Return-to-Zero (NRZ) modulation in latency critical optical communication links, this is VI Systems first generation of 56G NRZ VCSEL driver and TIA.

VI Systems GmbH says its sampling a vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) driver and limiting transimpedance amplifier (TIA) for 56-Gbps non-return-to-zero (NRZ) modulation. The chips are designed for latency critical optical communication links, such as very short and ultra-short reach interconnects based on the CEI-56G standard by the Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF).

This set of ICs are intended for differential signal input or output channels. The chips feature a power consumption of less than 280 mW, with a die size of 0.64x1.04 mm, and operation voltage specified up to 3.3 V.

Bandwidth simulation versus the actual measurement of the VCSEL
driver IC at characteristic bias conditions is demonstrated in the graph
above. The -3-dB modulation bandwidth is up to ~63 GHz.
