ADTRAN chosen for nbn's fiber-to-the-curb deployment in Australia

July 20, 2017
ADTRAN, Inc. says it has signed a supply agreement to support nbn's  fiber-to-the-curb (FTTC) roll out in Australia. The executed contract covers software, hardware, and services, including commitments to support Australia's ongoing high-speed broadband network rollout.

ADTRAN, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADTN) says it has signed a supply agreement to support nbn's fiber-to-the-curb (FTTC) roll out in Australia. The executed contract covers software, hardware, and services, including commitments to support Australia's ongoing high-speed broadband network rollout.

The announcement comes after the successful completion of a GPON network interoperability proof-of-concept program, says ADTRAN. ADTRAN IT specialists also have collaborated with nbn's IT team on a process to deploy ADTRAN's multi-vendor distribution point unit (DPU) management platform, an element of ADTRAN's Software-Defined Access (SD-Access) approach. DPUs are a common element of fiber to the distribution point (FTTdp) architectures, the most common way to deploy G.fast. nbn has conducted G.fast trials in the recent past. However, it appears focused initially on VDSL2 (see "Australia's nbn sets fiber-to-the-curb deployments").

"The rollout of the nbn network is one of the most complex and ambitious telecommunications projects to be undertaken in any market around the world," said Kathrine Dyer, nbn's chief network deployment officer. "We look forward to working with ADTRAN on bringing the nbn network into reality including working together on our world-leading fiber-to-the-curb network that is set to serve more than 1 million homes and businesses around the country by 2020."
