Wave2Wave expands portfolio with ROME 250 robotic optical switch for data center

Wave2Wave Solution has expanded its robotic optical switch portfolio with the ROME 250 Robotic Optical Switching platform. With a smaller size and lower price entry point than other elements of the company's product line, the ROME 250 will enable telecommunication and data center operators to upgrade to software defined networking (SDN) down to the physical connectivity layer, the company says.

With a smaller size and lower price entry point than other elements of the company's product line, the ROME 250 will enable telecommunication and data center operators to upgrade to software defined networking (SDN) down to the physical connectivity layer, the company says.

The ROME 250 is the latest addition to the company's growing portfolio. The ROME 500, 1000, and 2000 were added to the existing ROME 360 in February 2016 (see "Wave2Wave offers ROME optical platforms for data center automation") and are designed to operate in SDN environments, along with other network management software approaches.

The ROME 250 is designed to decrease opex to near zero and offer extensive capex savings with hundreds and thousands of network cross-connect points to meet demands from increasing data intensity. According to the company, the granularity level of the ROME 250 makes it compatible with network architecture and software interfaces.

The ROME 250 offers 256 fiber end points in a 19-inch 10RU chassis, supporting either single-mode or multimode OM4 fiber connections. Like the ROME 500, the ROME 250 is integrated with several third-party orchestration software platforms, and is now available for worldwide customers and channel partners.
