According to new research by Technavio, the global network switches market is expected to grow at a CAGR of about 3% through 2021. Technavio’s research report "Global Network Switches Market 2017-2021" analyzes the revenue and emerging trends factors of the market.

According to new research by Technavio, the global network switches market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 3% through 2021. Technavio's research report "Global Network Switches Market 2017-2021" analyzes the revenue and emerging trends factors of the market.

Technavio's global network market research analysts predict the increasing demand for efficient telecom services management will contribute to the market growth. Also growing are competition and the demand for high-quality services.

The analysts categorize the global network switches market into four major segments by switching ports: 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE), 40GbE, 100-Mbps Ethernet and 1GbE, and 10GbE. Technavio reports that the 10GbE segment accounted for the largest share of the network switches market in 2016. Technavio forecasts that over the next few years, several factors will contribute to this industry segment's growth, including the increased use of 10GbE port speeds by large branch offices, campuses, data centers, and telecommunication service providers.

"The small form-factor pluggable transceiver module is the most common hot-swappable I/O gear or device used in network and storage switches," said Chetan Mohan, a lead embedded systems research analyst from Technavio, about this class of switches. "Most of the enterprise class switches have the capacity for two or more SFP ports, and each SFP allows a switch to connect to fiber cables of different types, including single-mode and multimode, and thereby achieve speeds of 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps, or even Ethernet copper cables, such as CAT5e and CAT6."

Mohan also says that 40GbE has earned a significant share of network switch ports. "The global network switches market in the 40GbE segment will grow at a CAGR of almost 19% during the forecast period. This can be attributed to the rise of the optical fiber market and the growing demand for higher speed bandwidth. This will lead the market to replace 1GbE and 10GbE ports with 40GbE and 100GbE ports," says Chetan.
