TDS Telecom to buy Crestview Cable Communications

Aug. 7, 2017
TDS Telecom says it will purchase Central Oregon's Crestview Cable Communications to increase broadband speeds with fiber optic investments for home and business owners alike. The agreement is pending local and federal regulatory approval. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

TDS Telecom, a subsidiary of Telephone and Data Systems, Inc. (NYSE: TDS), says it will purchase Central Oregon's Crestview Cable Communications to increase broadband speeds with fiber optic investments for home and business owners alike. The agreement is pending local and federal regulatory approval. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

TDS says the purchase agreement was signed on August 3, 2017, and will add more than 21,000 service addresses to the adjacent BendBroadband system acquired by TDS in 2014 (see "TDS Telecom completes BendBroadband acquisition"). BendBroadband has a history of working with Crestview Cable Communications to enhance communications services across the Central Oregon region, says TDS.

According to the company, fiber-optic network improvements will create further opportunity for developing and providing commercial services to local businesses. TDS expects its investments will promote future expansion of the Central Oregon area as an entrepreneurial destination.

"Crestview Cable Communications has built a strong high-speed data, digital video, and voice service company, and worked hard to expand broadband capacity in Central Oregon," said Jim Butman, TDS Telecom's chief operating officer.

"With plans to immediately invest and further expand our fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) footprint in key communities such as La Pine — along with accelerating broadband speed upgrades and modernizing video products and services in Prineville and across the larger Crestview footprint, we are confident this transaction will benefit the communities Crestview serves," Butman adds.

Since its foundation in 1955, Crestview Cable Communications has grown through acquisitions, and currently maintains an all-digital video network, provides high-speed broadband with services up to 100 Mbps, and consumer and commercial voice services to Madras, Prineville, La Pine, Metolius, Crooked River Ranch, and Culver, OR.
