Huawei Marine to begin survey for PEACE submarine cable following desktop study

Tropic Science Co., Ltd. (Tropic Science) and Huawei Marine Networks say that the PEACE submarine cable desktop study (DTS) is nearly complete, and the marine survey will begin on January 15, 2018. The PEACE undersea cable system will be ready for service in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Tropic Science Co., Ltd. (Tropic Science) and Huawei Marine Networks say that the PEACE submarine cable desktop study (DTS) is nearly complete, and the marine survey will begin on January 15, 2018. The PEACE undersea cable system will be ready for service in the fourth quarter of 2019.

The first phase of the PEACE undersea cable system will span approximately 6,200 km to connect Pakistan (Gwadar and Karachi), Djibouti, Somalia, and Kenya. The second phase will extend a total length of approximately 13,000 km, offering the option to connect South Africa and Europe, says Huawei Marine.

Based on 200G DWDM technology, the PEACE submarine system is designed to deliver as much as 60Tb capacity. According to Huawei Marine, the cable system will provide a new information route linking Asia, Africa, and Europe by connecting with existing land and subsea cables to minimize route length and latency between China-Africa and China-Europe.

"Huawei Marine has demonstrated its ability to plan and implement complex telecom infrastructure projects and we believe this system will become an important infrastructure for Asian, African and European inter-continental communications and promote economic development of the regions," said He Liehui, chairman of Tropic Science.

In October, Tropic Science, China-ASEAN Information Harbor Co., China Construction Bank, and Huawei Marine Networks used the 3rd Asia Pacific Submarine Networks Forum as the site to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the launch of the PEACE undersea cable project (see "Funding settled for PEACE submarine cable project").

Tropic Science and Huawei Marine then signed the construction contract of the PEACE submarine cable project in November.
