Japan Internet Exchange uses Coriant Groove for metro interconnect

Japan Internet Exchange Co., Ltd. has used the Coriant Groove G30 Network Disaggregation Platform to upgrade metro interconnect in Tokyo and Osaka, says the systems house. The internet exchange, the largest in Japan by customer numbers according to Coriant, will use the new optical transport systems to offer 10G, 40G, and 100G interconnect services to its domestic, regional, and international customers via programmable 200G coherent optical transmission capabilities.

The internet exchange, the largest in Japan by customer numbers according to Coriant, will use the new optical transport systems to offer 10G, 40G, and 100G interconnect services to its domestic, regional, and international customers via programmable 200G coherent optical transmission capabilities.

Coriant The JPIX network serves more than 160 customers, including Tier 1 service providers, internet service providers, content providers, content delivery networks (CDNs), cloud providers, cable operators, and digital media companies.

"JPIX is playing a vital role as the core of Japan's Internet with an advanced network infrastructure optimized for the stringent demands of an evolving application landscape that includes IoT [Internet of Things] and 5G," said Petri Markkanen, managing director, Asia Pacific, Coriant.

Coriant asserts it won the business thanks to the Groove G30's low power consumption, high-density systems architecture, client-side interface diversity, and pay-as-you-grow scalability. Local partner UNIADEX Ltd. assisted in delivery of the optical systems. The company has had significant success for the Groove G30 with internet exchanges in Europe, landing deals in France, Sweden, and Switzerland as well as an internet peering point in Ireland in addition to this latest contract. In Japan, Coriant also has supplied the Groove G30 to INTERNET MULITFEED and NTT.
