Atlantic Broadband said it has signed a definitive agreement with FiberLight, LLC to acquire the latter's entire South Florida fiber-optic network for an undisclosed amount, adding nearly 350 route miles to its existing South Florida footprint. The company expects the deal to close within the next 6 months, subject to customary regulatory approvals.

Atlantic Broadband said it has signed a definitive agreement with FiberLight, LLC to acquire the latter's entire South Florida fiber-optic networkfor an undisclosed amount, adding nearly 350 route miles to its existing South Florida footprint (see "FiberLight expands fiber facilities in South Florida"). The company expects the deal to close within the next 6 months, subject to customary regulatory approvals.

The acquisition enables Atlantic Broadband to more than double its existing fiber footprint in the region, advancing its expansion of fiber-delivered business and carrier services in what it attests is a thriving corridor between downtown Miami and North Palm Beach. Atlantic Broadband has also purchased dark fiber capacity from the fiber-optic network services provider as part of the transaction, enabling it to deliver improved business communication services throughout the entire network footprint.

According to Atlantic Broadband, the completed acquisition of MetroCast earlier this month and the addition of fiber assets from the FiberLight agreement will double its network coverage, stretching its network to 7,000 route miles and 25,000 on-net buildings from Maine to South Florida (see "Atlantic Broadband completes purchase of Metrocast cable networks").

"With interconnections to every major data center and nearly 200 on-net buildings throughout South Florida, acquiring FiberLight's high quality and high capacity fiber network will cement our position as a leading provider of business communications services in South Florida," said David Isenberg, Atlantic Broadband president and chief revenue officer. "We look forward to playing an even greater role in supporting and enabling the innovation and economic growth that has characterized this region."
