Accedian improves application monitoring capabilities with Performance Vision purchase

Accedian Networks said it has acquired Performance Vision, a network and application performance management and network visibility markets vendor, to deliver improved end-user digital experience application monitoring capabilities to its current customers. The company says it will use Performance Vision's technology to broaden its market to healthcare, manufacturing, banking, insurance, cloud services, and other major enterprise segments. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Together with Accedian's SkyLIGHT platform, Performance Vision's wire data analytics will deliver full visibility of all applications, transactions, and network components for a complete view of network health, says the company. SkyLIGHT is a performance assurance software platform that Accedian introduced in 2013 to provide the benefits of software-defined networking (SDN) to mobile backhaul applications (see "Accedian Networks SkyLIGHT shines on performance assurance").

According to Accedian, the combined SKYLight and Performance Vision platform differs from other platforms because it is entirely virtual. The combination merges capabilities that are traditionally distributed in varying products and services to decrease complexity and total cost of ownership. By bringing network awareness and application monitoring together, digital assets can be optimized to provide improved business outcome, says Accedian. Additionally, analyzing all traffic crossing physical, virtual, cloud and SDN infrastructure will produce information that enables IT and network operations to enhance the end-user digital experience, application, network, and multi-cloud performance.

"IDC predicts that enterprises will increase their spending on network and application performance monitoring to U.S. $2.8 billion worldwide in 2018," said Elisabeth Rainge, IDC research vice president of communications service provider operations. "The main driver for this growth is digital transformation, which includes cloud-based service categories such as IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS, plus the uptake of highly distributed, virtualized infrastructure."

The Performance Vision acquisition is part of Accedian's 2018 plans to increase revenue and expand into new markets and business segments, the company affirms. Last month Accedian appointed Sergio Bea as vice president of global enterprise and channels, and Richard Piasentin as chief marketing officer and chief strategy officer, to support its enterprise space expansion strategy.

"As virtualization and hybrid cloud applications continue to be deployed at an accelerated pace, the interdependence of network and application performance increases significantly," said Bea. "The ability to see the entire digital infrastructure uniformly—from end-user to multiple data centers, clouds, and SaaS applications—fills a visibility gap that otherwise threatens digital transformation projects' success, speed, return on investment (ROI) and business value."

Performance Vision has over 400 global enterprise customers using their IT operations daily, including KPMG, Orange, CGI, BPCE, as well as the French Ministry of the Interior and other government organizations.
