Fujikura Europe used the FTTH Conference 2018 in Valencia this week to launch its Hybrid FAST + Maintenance Free Cleaver (MFC) system to eliminate investments in high-precision cleave tools.
High-precision cleave tools are costly, need periodical maintenance, and have the potential to be lost or stolen, asserts Fujikura Europe. The company asserts that by equipping its MFC with the connectors, no investment in high-precision cleave tools is required.
Solid-state index matching gum combined with index matching gel decreases the chance of contamination impeding signals and fiber damage from excessiveinsertion force. According to Fujikura Europe, this combination also minimizes the likelihood of insufficient insertion loss (IL)/return loss (RL) due to a poor cleave condition when the MFC is not used.
This new system is based on a holder system to reduce the risk of remedial work from incorrect cleave length and insertion force, for an improved chance of customer connections that are correct the first time, the company attests.
Featuring a repeatable good end-face cleave condition and carry case design to protect from storage of the fiber clamp in the engaged position, the Hybrid FAST + MFC is also compact and user-friendly, says Fujikura Europe. A free stripping tool can be included in the installers kit when working with 250-µm fiber, and no further tools are needed aside from basic cable entry tools and fiber cleaning.
"The new hybrid FAST + MFC solution was created to negate the variance in the skill sets of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) subscriber installation teams, which vary from country to country globally," said Brian Leonard, Fujikura Europe's product manager of connectivity and cleaning solutions. "Not only is the new hybrid connectors' performance great on correctly cleaved fibers, but it can also perform well on poorly cleaved fibers."
Fujikura Europe is an authorized distributor of AFL NOYES products, a subsidiary of America Fujikura Ltd. and part of the Fujikura Group of companies, and the approved calibration and repair center for NOYES products in Europe.
In 2016, AFL added Fujikura's 62S active core alignment splicer to its splicer portfolio, offering 5-mm cleave length for splice-on connectors or small package needs, sheath clamp or fiber holder operation, and Internet software upgrade capabilities as well (see "AFL offers Fujikura 62S active core alignment fusion splicer").
