NeoPhotonics offers 53-GBaud linear optical components for 400-Gbps data center designs

NeoPhotonics Corp. (NYSE: NPTN) has followed up its recent announcement of 64-GBaud component shipments with the unveiling of a family of 53-GBaud linear optical components. The portfolio includes PAM4 devices for 100G and 400G cloud data center and other client applications. These include drivers and externally modulated lasers (EMLs) in transmitters as well as PIN photodetectors and transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs) in receivers.

NeoPhotonics Corp. (NYSE: NPTN) has followed up its recent announcement of 64-GBaud component shipments with the unveiling of a family of 53-GBaud linear optical components. The portfolio includes PAM4 devices for 100G and 400G cloud data center and other client applications. These include drivers and externally modulated lasers (EMLs) in transmitters as well as PIN photodetectors and transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs) in receivers.

The company sees the new line as serving the increasing demand for single-lambda 100-Gbps designs based on PAM4 modulation. The 53-GBaud product family, which NeoPhotonics asserts offers high performance and low power consumption for small form factor optical module applications, includes:

  • A 53-Gbaud Open Drain Driver (ODD) for linear operation of EMLs that offers a typical power consumption of 90-mW per channel.
  • A quad 53-GBaud Mach-Zehnder module (MZM) driver line for silicon photonics modulator applications supports 3.5-Vppd output per channel and a typical 2.2-W power consumption for all four channels.
  • A 53-GBaud CWDM4 EML, which can be integrated with the new ODD, operates over the temperature range from 20 to 70C for PAM4 intra-data center applications.
  • 53-Gbaud PIN photodetectors that feature a side illumination structure designed to enable a simple coplanar assembly with mux/demux chips and TIAs.
  • A 53-Gbaud TIA that NeoPhotonics says offers low noise and a typical power consumption of 60mA over a 3.3V rail. The TIA targets receiver signal amplification for up to 10 km transmission.

NeoPhotonics will display the new line as well as other components and modules in Booth 3322 at OFC 2018 in San Diego, March 13 to 15.
