Zayo chosen by global webscale customer for dark fiber on Reno to Umatilla route

Zayo Group Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: ZAYO) says that a global webscale customer has selected it for dark fiber services on its route between Reno, NV and Umatilla, OR. The route is currently under development, and the customer has not been named.

To offercompletely resilient networks, more webscale companies are moving to triversity or quadversity. According to Zayo, the fiber-optic network features a high fiber count, and will provide the customer's data centers in the Northwest with further diversity.

The new route will add more than 600 route miles connecting Umatilla to the growing data center hub of Reno. The route is entirely underground, and creates a diverse path between Portland and other key West Coast cities. In addition to dark fiber, the route will be available for 100G wavelengths once finished.

This deal ensures additional support for Zayo's investment in the network, and follows an announcement last month that the developing route is anchored by a webscale customer which also remains unnamed. Also announced last month was Zayo's deal with an otherwise unidentified global webscale cloud provider to deliver high-capacity wavelength connectivity between a centrally located U.S. facility and a major data center on the West Coast (see "Zayo chosen by global webscale cloud provider for high-capacity connectivity").

"In addition to this follow-on customer sale, this strategic route has generated a funnel of other sales opportunities," said Jack Waters, Zayo's CTO and president of fiber solutions. "As more companies add data centers in Oregon and Nevada, Zayo is well positioned to provide high-capacity fiber infrastructure."
