dsc Communications Corp. (Dallas, TX) was recently awarded a multimillion-dollar contract to install Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (sdh) transmission technology in the offshore network of Statoil, the Norwegian state-owned oil company. The contract includes dsc`s access multiplexing equipment, trunk equipment, and a network element tool to control and monitor the equipment. dsc is also scheduled to deliver stm-16 trunk and optical amplifier transmission equipment for two submarine links as a subcontractor to Ericsson Cables (Stockholm), which will supply submarine cable systems connecting the oil platforms with the terrestrial network.
