INTERLEAVER
The Filter-Leaver is an all-passive interleaver for long-haul, regional, and metro DWDM systems. It can divide the C- or L-bands into 10 subbands containing eight 50-, four 100-, or two 200-GHz channels, or a combination of those. The device provides high isolation, wavelength accuracy, and stability, and low insertion loss and polarization-dependent loss. Custom-designed wavelengths, channel configurations, and packaging are available.

L-BAND ANALYZER
The MS9710C optical spectrum analyzer can make measurements in both the L- and the C-bands. An integrated reference wavelength source provides wavelength accuracy of >0.02 nm. Double-pass diffraction technology allows dynamic range of 70 dB at 1 nm, providing accurate optical signal-to-noise measurements of >47 dB at 50-GHz channel spacing. The device has linearity of ±0.1 dB from 1520 to 1620 nm and ±0.05 dB at 1550/1600 nm. It has 50-pm resolution with an accuracy of ±3% and optical sensitivity of -90 dBm.

MUX/DEMUX
A filter-based 20-channel multiplexer/demultiplexer with 100-GHz spacing is designed for metro and long-haul uses. It has insertion loss of <7.5 dB for multiplexing and <8 dB for demultiplexing. Polarization-dependent loss is <0.1 dB and polarization-mode dispersion is <0.1 ps. Isolation of adjacent channels is >20 for multiplexing and >25 dB for demultiplexing. Operating temperature is 0°C to 65°C. Applications also include CATV transmission and EDFA systems.

SOURCE MODULE
The FOS-79800E source module works with the company's WDM system. It has center wavelengths from 1475 to 1625 nm, ±1-pm resolution, a maximum output power range of 9 to 20 mW, output power stability of <0.005 dB rms, output wavelength stability of ±0.003 nm, and coherence control for SBS suppression and power stability. A source shutter and PM alignment are optional. The module can be controlled through a front panel menu or through a GPIB remote interface, and multiple modules can be synchronized through a mainframe.

TUNABLE FILTER
The AgileWave is a 50-GHz tunable bandpass filter that can scan or set along the entire C-band. The digitally programmable filter module allows precise routing and monitoring of individual DWDM channels, allowing users to remotely select out channels for optical performance tests. It has filter isolation >50 dB. It comes in a stand-alone package or can be made in card form for installation into customer equipment.

EDFA PUMP LASER
The OPSL-980-500 is an optically pumped, semiconductor, vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser with an output of >500 mW at 980 nm. The laser is designed for pumping erbium-doped fiber amplifiers in high-channel-count DWDM applications. It comes in an internally cooled, single-sided 9-pin, single-mode-fiber pigtailed package with nominal operating wavelengths between 975 and 985 nm.

OPTICAL RECEIVERS
A range of low-power optical-receiver modules include APD or PIN photodetectors and are designed to operate at up to 3 Gbit/s within the 1300- to 1600-nm range. They come in an 8-pin mini-DIL package with a single-mode optical-fiber pigtail. Typical sensitivity is -33 dBm for the APD versions and -23 dBm for the PIN types, with typical power consumption of 0.2 W.

PDL TESTERS
The IQ-5100B polarization scrambler and IQ-3400B PDL meter measure polarization-dependent loss and are used in conjunction to test optical components such as couplers, fixed attenuators, and isolators. The meter uses a scanning method to measure PDL, polarization-dependent coupling ratio, optical return loss, and insertion loss.

COATING UPGRADE KIT
An upgrade kit for the company's DWDM coating systems improves the computer-controlled process photometer to provide precision monitoring of transmittance during coating deposition. Included in the kit are new optical fibers, new optical-fiber feed-throughs, a new monochromator, and a new pyrometer configuration.

FIBERS
The TruePhase family of polarization-maintaining optical fibers is designed for use in high-capacity communications systems components and devices. The 14XX-Raman version is designed for Raman pump lasers used in 40-Gbit/s systems. Another is designed for 1480-nm pump lasers used in EDFAs. The TruePhase 1550 is used to guide light from the coherent source lasers into external modulators.

TEC CONTROLLER IC
The LX1810 is a pulsewidth-modulated switching regulator designed to control thermoelectric cooler (TEC) elements used to cool the lasers and RF power amplifiers in optical transponders and broadband base stations. The integrated circuit uses pulsewidth modulation that is >90% efficient, so it can be mounted near the TEC without adding heat to the system.

OPTICAL-SPECTRUM ANALYZERS
The Raptelle 10000 optical-spectrum analyzer covers the 1000- to 1650-nm range, while the 20000 covers 1500 to 1650 nm at higher resolution. Both are for controlling the production of DWDM components, especially tunable lasers. An InGaAs camera with 320 x 256 pixels records more than 30 segments in parallel; then software joins the segments together for more than 5000 simultaneously recorded channels.

RAMAN FIBER LASERS
The KPS-RFL-50 series of Raman fiber lasers are designed for testing of telecommunications components, remote pumping of high-power EDFAs, and for distributed Raman amplification in DWDM. A microprocessor board maintains constant output power and manages alarms and status. A GPIB interface allows automation. Power outputs are available up to 5 W at wavelengths from 1365 to 1495 nm.

PASSIVE RAMAN COMPONENTS
A line of passive components for Raman amplification systems includes isolators, polarization-maintaining beam combiners, WDM pump combiners, fused-fiber pump combiners, WDM signal/pump combiners, and combinations of these components. The devices are designed to work across the C-, L-, and S-bands.

ISOLATORS
Miniature fiberoptic isolators are used to block reflected signals in a fiberoptics system to eliminate feedback problems. The isolators have isolation levels as high as 60 dB with insertion losses as low as 0.6 dB and return losses of -60 dB. They are available in polarization-maintaining and polarization-independent versions at 1550 and 1300 nm and other wavelengths. Input and output fibers can be either single-mode or PM fiber.

FIBER MEASUREMENT
The CURL400 system measures the curl of an optical fiber using a dual-beam technique that automatically avoids the limitations imposed by image distortion, mechanical tolerances, fiber positioning, fiber clamping, or end-face quality. It achieves repeatability of 0.05 m at a curl of 2.5 m, with a curl range of 0.7 to 999 m. Typical measurement time is 12 s.

S-BAND AMPLIFIER
The AMP-FL8201 is an S-band amplifier covering 1455 to 1485 nm. It uses a thulium-doped fluoride fiber pumped with a single laser diode to produce 30 dB of gain. The output fiber is a standard SMF-28 silica fiber. Average peak-to-peak noise values are typically in the range of 0.05 dBm.

FBG-WRITING LASER
The BraggStar Industrial is an excimer laser for writing fiber Bragg gratings with the phase-mask technique. An ArF version has maximum output of 8 mJ at 193 nm, pulse duration of 10 ns (FWHM), and average power of 1.5 W at 200 Hz and 3.5 W at 500 Hz. A KrF version has maximum output of 18 mJ at 248 nm, pulse duration of 10 ns, and average power of 3 W at 200 Hz and 8 W at 500 Hz.

MULTIPORT AMPLIFIER
The GainNet multiport EDFA combines eight amplifiers in an integrated package sharing common pump lasers and distribution fabric. The amplifiers can be configured independently in parallel or serially. Typical saturated output power is 18 dBm per port, typical noise figure is 6 dB, and electrical power consumption is 40 W.
