Interplanet offers fiber business services via Calix E7-2

Interplanet, a communications service provider in northern Italy, has deployed the Calix (NYSE: CALX) E7-2 Ethernet Service Access Platform (ESAP) in a fiber-optic network designed to support business services in the Verona region.

The network is now supplying IP telephony, integrated voice and data communications, email services, and network security services at rates from 10 to 50 Mbps via both GPON and point-to-point Gigabit Ethernet, Calix says. Interplanet can boost data rates to 1 Gbps in the future, the systems house adds.

“We had looked at a number of solutions before we found Calix,” said Roberto Guiotto, spokesperson at Interplanet. “The Calix E7-2 offered us what we were looking for in terms of scalability as we grow our customer base and the ability to combine VDSL2, GPON, and point-to-point Gigabit Ethernet in one platform. We are implementing a ringed network with the E7-2 to deliver protected Internet services to our customers, while also allows us [sic] to connect our Wi-Fi radio base stations. Calix was the only company that could provide a solution from the street cabinet to customer premises equipment and could meet our requirements fully.”

Interplanet plans to expand into Padua near Venice later this year, as well as add residential services, Calix reveals.
