m2fx touts fiber to the premises milestone

Fiber cable and connectivity supplier m2fx says that, thanks to a recent deployment by Champaign Telephone Company in Illinois, the company’s patented Miniflex fiber cable, microduct, and protection tube products have now seen use in 25,000 fiber to the premises (FTTP) installations worldwide.

Fiber cable and connectivity supplier m2fx says that, thanks to a recent deployment by Champaign Telephone Co. in Illinois, the company’s patented Miniflex fiber-optic cable, microduct, and protection tube products have now seen use in 25,000 fiber to the premises (FTTP) installations worldwide.

Miniflex is distinctive because of its ability to support pushing the fiber cable through conduit. This ability reduces deployment time and can save as much as 50% on installation costs in the developed world versus conventional fiber-optic cable installation approaches, the company says. Meanwhile, its patented grooved design and process protects the optical fiber in the last 200 feet of an install while maintaining a high degree of cable flexibility.

Champaign Telephone has deployed 100,000 feet of Miniflex products since 2012 to connect more than 150 buildings to its metro Ethernet network. m2fx asserts the network services supplier has seen a 40% reduction in labor costs combined with faster installation time. Technical crews can complete a 500-foot run of cable in half a day, which enables Champaing Telephone to execute “next day” installations for new connections.
