Accedian Networks MetroNODE LT offers 10 Gigabit Ethernet support for mobile backhaul, business services

June 26, 2013
Accedian Networks has unveiled the MetroNODE LT, a compact, fully programmable 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) platform for Ethernet service providers and mobile operators. The system provides 10GbE capabilities “at a 1GbE price point” for applications such as mobile backhaul, business services, wholesale services, and cloud connectivity, Accedian Networks asserts.

The MetroNODE LT supports low latency, high availability, and performance assurance along with high port density, Accedian says. It also features the attributes of the company’s Performance Assured Networking strategy:

  • Programmability: Thanks to Accedian’s “wall-to-wall” FPGA-based architecture, the MetroNODE LT is fully programmable, customizable, future proof, and upgradeable to Software Defined Networking (SDN) support, the company says.
  • Performance assurance: The system is designed to offer highly scalable, granular, and precise performance metrics, as well as test and turn-up capabilities through industry-standard protocols such as RFC2544 and ITU-T Y.1564. These features are hardware driven but software orchestrated, according to Accedian.
  • High performance: The MetroNODE LT supports what Accedian describes as “ultra-low pass-through latency and negligible pass-through jitter.” The system operates at wire speed for all packet sizes on all ports and with sub-50-ms network protection, the company adds.
  • Accelerated profitability: The MetroNODE LT’s low cost makes 10GbE capabilities attractive even to mobile operators just getting started on 1GbE, Accedian asserts. The system eliminates the cost of forklift upgrades and additional capital expenditures to accommodate future services growth.

“Once again Accedian is disruptively changing the economics of how service providers will roll-out Performance Assured Network services.” said Patrick Ostiguy, president and CEO of Accedian. “As an integral part of our recently announced SkyLIGHT solutions architecture, the MetroNODE LT expands upon our promise of delivering fully programmable performance assured networking.”
