TraceSpan launches handheld GPON tester

TraceSpan Communications Inc. has released the GPON Tracer 380, which it claims is the first and only handheld tester for on-site GPON network monitoring and troubleshooting.

TraceSpan Communications Inc. has released the GPON Tracer 380, which it claims is the first and only handheld tester for on-site GPON network monitoring and troubleshooting.

The company says GPON Tracer is the ideal tool for field engineers involved in GPON network troubleshooting, as well as for customer support teams at optical line terminal (OLT) and optical networking unit (ONU) manufacturers.

With its user-friendly touch-screen interface, GPON Tracer provides a variety of real-time indications in textual and graphical formats, including downstream and upstream data rates, optical power levels for the OLT and for every one of the ONUs in the network, link and transmission errors, and service interruptions, TraceSpan says. In addition, it includes a built-in mechanism to escalate complex service issues to higher tiers, by means of recording the GPON and upper layer protocol data for extensive analysis by the GPON Xpert multi-layer protocol analyzer.

"The continued growth in GPON deployments has created an increasing need for on-site troubleshooting of GPON equipment and networks," said Dr. Hanan Herzberg, TraceSpan founder and CEO. " TraceSpan has addressed this need with the introduction of GPON Tracer. Some of our key customers have already given us excellent feedback about GPON Tracer, and other major telecom operators and manufacturers are waiting in line to receive their first units and provide their field support teams with new testing capabilities."

The GPON Tracer will be presented at the CommunicAsia 2013 exhibition and conference in Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, June 18 through 21, 2013, stand 1B3-12.
