India-based fiber and cable manufacturer Sterlite Technologies Ltd. (BSE: 532374, NSE: STRTECH) has upgraded its line of bend-insensitive fibers. Dubbed “BOW LITE,” the family now includes the new BOW LITE SUPER (G.657 B3), which joins the “significantly improved” BOW LITE PLUS (G.657 A1) and BOW LITE ENHANCED (G.657 A2.B2) fibers. Sterlite will target the fibers at fiber to the home (FTTH) applications as well as other uses that require tight bend tolerance.
Sterlite notes that fiber-optic cables that feature bend-tolerant fiber have become quite popular in FTTH deployments because of the tight bends encountered in the distribution section of the network as well as within multiple-dwelling units and single-family homes. The BOW LITE line offers the low macrobend loss and attenuation such FTTH deployments demand, Sterlite asserts. They meet or exceed the specifications within the relevant ITU Recommendations and IEC 60793-2-50 optical fiber specification, the company adds.
"We are very pleased with the launch of these products,” said Dr. Badri Gomatam, Sterlite’s CTO. “Being committed to innovation in the core market segments we serve, these new fibers augment Sterlite's product portfolio in optical fibers, and positions Sterlite well in addressing the growing demand for telecommunications infrastructure in India and abroad."
