Calix Inc. (NYSE: CALX) says it has integrated its T-Series family of GPON optical network terminals (ONTs) with its E7 Ethernet Service Access Platforms (ESAPs), bringing a variety of new options to its fiber access portfolio.

Already widely deployed throughout the world as a complement to the BLM 1500 GPON Access Terminal (GAT), Calix says the T-Series ONT family dramatically expands the range of home gateway units (HGU) available for service providers wishing to include ETSI E7 platforms in their deployments. Service providers can complement their existing BLM 1500 GAT deployments with the E7 ESAP, including the modular E7-2 and multi-terabit E7-20, while maintaining their current operational models built around T-Series ONTs.

"As we consider expanding our fiber deployment beyond the more urban areas of Whangarei, we are in need of a complementary platform to our BLM," said Steve Macmillan, public affairs manager of Northpower New Zealand. "The modularity and small form factor of the E7-2 is a perfect fit for our need, especially as we have already operationalized around the T-Series ONT family. With the ability of the T-Series to interoperate with both BLM and E7-2 platform, we have the optimal portfolio of options at our disposal as we expand our services across the Northland region of New Zealand."

The T-Series family of ONTs offers a wide range of GPON-enabled services for residential environments, from basic high-speed data services to advanced VoIP and IPTV. The combination of the T-Series with the P-Series premises portfolio gives service providers the flexibility to match form with function in virtually any residential, business, or mixed-use deployment scenario – optimizing capex and opex efficiency while introducing new potential revenue streams -- and deliver those services over one unified access network, Calix asserts.

Calix will be exhibiting and showcasing its new E7 at Broadband World Forum on 22 – 24 October, in booth B14.
