The Light Brigade has extended its FTTx fiber-optic training portfolio with an FTTx Outside Plant Design course for those who need in-depth skills for designing an effective FTTx network.

The Light Brigade has extended its FTTx fiber-optic training portfolio with an FTTx Outside Plant Design course for those who need in-depth skills for designing an effective FTTx network.

The three-day class includes 16 hours of classroom lecture and 8 hours of hands-on design exercises. Concepts covered include customer take rate and density to outside plant design. Principal topics include FTTH network field configurations, design benchmarks, and installation parameters for high-rise buildings, campus style apartments, single family urban residential areas, and rural areas for active Ethernet and PON systems. Attendees will create their own FTTx network designs in classroom breakout sessions and will be expected to apply the learned objectives to distributed split, centralized split, home run, and point-to-point systems.

The new FTTx Outside Plant Design course complements Light Brigade’s other fiber-optic broadband courses. These include the “Certified Fiber to the Home Professional” (CFHP) course, a two-day program that prepares planners, supervisors, and project managers with the knowledge they need to install and maintain FTTH and FTTB networks. The CFHP course is available as both a classroom event, or, for those in remote locations, as a self-contained online training program (see "The Light Brigade, FTTH Council Americas join on CFHP Online training"). The Light Brigade also offers “FTTx for Installers and Technicians,” which teaches the hands-on skills needed to install, test, and repair FTTx networks.
