LiveAir Networks to bring gigabit Internet to Texas via FTTH

Texas-based Internet service provider LiveAir Networks says it is planning to light up new fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks in Bastrop and Fayette counties in December. The networks will support 1-Gbps services via the FTTH infrastructure

The initial deployment will be in Smithville and La Grange, TX, based on consumer demand. The service provider is currently pre-signing consumers for broadband service with up to 1 Gbps. From December, consumers will not only have immediate access to 1-Gbps fiber-optic broadband, they will also have access to LiveAir’s high-definition voice offerings and managed home services via fiber.

“Fiber-based Internet has traditionally been limited to urban areas, such as Verizon’s FIOS, AT&T U-Verse, and Google Fiber. Our rural communities are getting bypassed,” said James W. Breeden, LiveAir’s CEO and founder. “It is our hope that by starting our FTTH project in these two core cities in Eastern Central Texas that we kick start a new chapter in these areas’ economic development.”

In addition to these first phase deployments, LiveAir plans to expand availability of LiveAir Fiber at 1 Gbps to more residents and small businesses in 2014. Which areas get fiber first will depend on the number of signups received online.

LiveAir will connect these new 1-Gbps home networks with its new Texas DWDM fiber backbone network that it announced in September.

Breeden continues, “When we made the commitment to our long-haul infrastructure, we knew we had started something special. Bringing 1 Gbps to the home, powered by our own optical backbone, is something special we are very excited about.”

LiveAir started as a wireless-only Internet service provider, and today operates a MPLS-powered fiber and microwave network stretching across thousands of square miles of Texas serving over 30,000 users’ daily Internet and networking needs.
