Israel's Bezeq taps Alcatel-Lucent for VDSL2 vectoring technology

Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) says it is providing VDSL2 vectoring equipment to Israel’s Bezeq to help the operator enhance and upgrade the capabilities of its national broadband access network serving 1.2 million subscribers.

Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) says it is providing VDSL2 vectoring equipment to Israel’s Bezeq to help the operator enhance and upgrade the capabilities of its national broadband access network serving 1.2 million subscribers.

VDSL2 vectoring uses noise-cancelling technology that removes the crosstalk between multiple copper lines in a bundle so that each can operate at its best and deliver higher bit rates. This technology will enable Bezeq to broaden the availability of its ultra-broadband access service, providing homes and businesses with speeds up to 100 Mbps, and significantly enhance their broadband and video services experience.

Alcatel-Lucent says its VDSL2 vectoring technology provides a competitive advantage. Leveraging existing copper line infrastructure, the technology enables Bezeq to offer faster broadband connections as quickly as possible.

“The ultra-broadband market in Israel is heating up very quickly with the introduction of bandwith-demanding IP applications,” said Yuval Keinan CTO of Bezeq. “Alcatel-Lucent’s VDSL2 vectoring solution will give Bezeq a great advantage by enabling us to leverage our existing infrastructure while swapping out old technology to meet the customer demand for ultra-broadband in the fastest and most economical way.”

Luis Martinez Amago, president EMEA of Alcatel-Lucent, added, “Alcatel-Lucent had an established relationship with Bezeq in the areas of IP and DWDM technology but we had not worked with them on access projects before this one. After a successful next-generation network technology trial, they chose our VDSL2 vectoring solution.”

Bezeq is not alone in its decision to use vectoring. Nearly 70% of operators interviewed by market research firm Broadbandtrends LLC said they are either in trial or actively deploying VDSL2 vectoring technology (see “Survey confirms operator demand for VDSL2 vectoring”)
