SK Broadband deploys ARRIS E6000 platform in South Korea

ARRIS Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: ARRS) says that SK Broadband is deploying its E6000 converged edge router (CER), enabling the South Korean service provider to launch its new 1-Gbps data service as well as enhanced entertainment experiences.

ARRIS Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: ARRS) says that SK Broadband is deploying its E6000 converged edge router (CER), enabling the South Korean service provider to launch its new 1-Gbps data service as well as enhanced entertainment experiences.

The ARRIS E6000 CER is a converged cable access platform (CCAP) that has been deployed worldwide and now provides service to over 1 million subscribers, ARRIS says.

South Korean consumers are demanding more content, at faster speeds, and on more connected devices. ARRIS says its CCAP system will enable cable multiservice operators (cable MSOs), such as SK Broadband, to scale to these challenges, while meeting the demand for more high-quality content anytime, on any device wherever they are.

"As we prepare to launch our new 1-gig data service we looked for a solution that can scale to deliver these higher speeds, but with an eye on cost and space requirements," said Richard Kim, team leader of network planning HQ and access network engineering, SK Broadband. "We have a longstanding relationship with ARRIS, and we trust ARRIS to deliver… the E6000 meets our needs today and has the scalability we need for the future."

ARRIS says the E6000 CER delivers new levels of density and cost-effectiveness in a simple, robust integrated architecture that will enable converged services on broadband access networks. The E6000 CER offers high-availability, high-performance services, and supports a fully redundant design.

"Using much less space and power than existing architectures as well as delivering game-changing downstream and upstream capacity and delivering broadband speeds to attract and retain customers, our E6000 is the perfect package," claimed Tim Gropp, senior vice president, Asia Pacific, ARRIS Group.
