Cube Optics AG says it has provided 40/100G semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) to help the Swedish Internet exchange provider (IXP) Netnod extend the reach of 100G networks in Stockholm, Sweden.

One of the largest IXPs in Europe, Netnod’s exchange points see some of the highest amount of traffic per network connected in Europe. The company operates five locations in different cities in Sweden. NetNod was looking at options to extend the reach of 100G connections within the Stockholm area.

“We are seeing an increasing requirement from our customers to expand their networks to 100G, but with low price points,” explained Kurt Erik Lindqvist, CEO of Netnod. “Our customers were requesting 100G, but due to the prices of LR4 optics, we were not able to meet their price points, until we spoke with Cube Optics.”

“Cube Optics’ SOA amplifier can extend the reach of 1310-nm LR4 transceivers and provides excellent value for money versus expensive ER4 100G options,” said Francis Nedvidek, CEO of Cube Optics. “Cube Optics continues to push the boundaries on low-cost 100G options for the metro.”
