Huawei touts 400G core router success

Huawei says it has seen significant market acceptance for its 400-Gbps NE5000E core router, based on the fact that 53 operators have deployed the system in the past five months. The success confirms the market is ready for core routers with such capacity, the company asserts.

The China-based systems vendor unveiled 400G capacity capabilities for the NE5000E in 2012 and demonstrated a 1-Tbps line card last April (see “Huawei unveils terabit router line card, 100-Tbps cluster router”). The system currently sports a capacity of up to 2 Tbps per slot, 6.4 Tbps per chassis, and 32 Tbps per system. The platform also offer power consumption of 1 W/G, based on testing performed at the European Advanced Networking Test Center (EANTC).

The company has made several deployments public, including Mobily in Saudi Arabia, MegaFon in Russia, True and DTAC in Thailand, and Jazztel in Spain. The current 53 deployment total covers five continents in more than 30 countries, Huawei says.
