Israel-based international telecommunications services supplier Bezeq International has deployed the Apollo packet-optical transport system from ECI Telecom, the systems house says. The deployment represents Israel’s entry into 100-Gbps fiber-optic networks, ECI adds.

Bezeq International requires the upgraded capacity to keep pace with the capacity demands of its large enterprise and business customers. The 100G technology has been implemented to aggregate 10-Gbps channels in a variety of formats, including Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and SDH. The new infrastructure is already carrying live traffic, ECI says.

Bezeq had a pre-deployment look at the technology in March 2013 when it participated in a 100G submarine network transmission trial conducted in conjunction with the Tera Santa Consortium (see “ECI Telecom transmits coherent 100G over 4600 km of submarine cable”).

“Deploying 100G was a natural evolution to Bezeq International, as we continue to address our customers’ demands for better and more cost-effective services,” said Sagi Kozuch, CTO of Bezeq International. “Over the years, ECI has proved itself to be a reliable and responsive partner, meeting our needs for advanced technology, platforms and services.”

“Bezeq International is once again a pioneer in Israel with the deployment of the first 100G network in the country,” added Mickey Wilf, Head of APAC & Middle East Regional Business Units, ECI Telecom. “Its customers will be the main beneficiary of the many advantages this network will bring, such as increased capacity, speed, reliability, and disaster-recovery capabilities. The Apollo brings a cost-effective solution for operators around the world who are looking for better ways to serve their enterprise and residential customers.”
