Packet optical transport systems vendor Optelian Access Networks Corp. says that not-for-profit agency Cybera has chosen the Optelian FLEX Architecture for its telecom network in Calgary.

Cybera works to accelerate the adoption of advanced technology in Alberta. In one of its core roles, Cybera is the architect and guardian of CyberaNet, the ultra-high-speed fiber-optic network that connects Alberta’s post-secondary institutions and business incubators to the international system of research networks.

The new network will connect research and education institutions to enable collaboration among organizations, as well as support Calgary’s flourishing technology community.

“Optelian is enabling Cybera to light fiber in Calgary with technology that will provide hundreds of gigabits per second of telecom capacity to connect a variety of higher education and not-for-profit organizations together,” notes Jean-Francois Amiot, Cybera’s director of networks and operations.

Cybera will light the Calgary fiber with DWDM products from Optelian’s FLEX Architecture, including the OMS-7190, MDX-4000, and RGN-8010. The network will offer a reliable infrastructure of up to 40 DWDM wavelengths per fiber pair at rates of 10 Gbps per wavelength, with the capability to increase to 100 Gbps when required.

“Our efforts in Calgary,” says Rupy Bhoi, Optelian’s sales director in Canada, “are the first step in connecting public institutions across the province. Optelian greatly looks forward to being part of the continued rollout of CyberaNet across Alberta.”
