Champion ONE launches 10G bi-directional Ethernet transceivers

March 20, 2014
Optical transceiver supplier Champion Optical Network Engineering, LLC (Champion ONE) has introduced a range of new bi-directional (BiDi) 60-km 10G SFP+ and XFP optical transceivers. The introduction of this new hot pluggable technology enables service providers, healthcare institutions, universities, and enterprises to optimize their network by virtually doubling their fiber plant and extending the life of their network without the expense of running new fiber, the company asserts.

By enabling the transmission of a 10-Gbps full-duplex signal over a single strand of optical fiber, operators can effectively double their fiber plant instantly as well as halve fiber leasing costs. Using single fiber optics also saves money by providing an alternative to implementing an expensive active CWDM or DWDM system, Champion ONE points out.

“As bandwidth demand increases, network expansion investments are being made to support higher levels of customer traffic. Our innovative 60-km 10G SFP+ and XFP single-fiber transceivers will help reduce fiber installation or lease costs while improving network capacity and ROI by enabling providers to serve more customers with fewer optical fibers,” said John Jutila, Champion ONE’s new CEO.

Champion ONE’s new 60-km single fiber transceivers are multi-source agreement (MSA) compliant. These transceivers serve as a direct replacement for hot pluggable OEM optical transceivers.
