Bright House Networks deploys Cisco Network Convergence System

U.S. cable MSO Bright House Networks has deployed Cisco’s (NASDAQ:CSCO) Cisco® Network Convergence System (NCS) 6000. Use of the platform will enable Bright House to support a range of cloud-based, managed services for businesses, such as hosted voice, call center, application, and infrastructure-as-a-service, as well as managed security, network transport, Wi-Fi, and traditional voice and data services.

Use of the platform will enable Bright House to support a range of cloud-based, managed services for businesses, such as hosted voice, call center, application, and infrastructure-as-a-service, as well as managed security, network transport, Wi-Fi, and traditional voice and data services.

Bright House Networks is the sixth largest cable MSO in the U.S., with subscribers and business services customers in Florida, Alabama, Indiana, Michigan, and California. The MEF-certified network operator offers such business services as video, voice, data, and cloud-based and managed services.

The NCS 6000 deployment is the first by a cable MSO. Cisco unveiled the NCS line last September, which combines routing and optical transport in the same family of platforms (see “Cisco integrates optical transport in new Network Convergence System routers”). The Cisco NCS 6000 features a 1 Tbps line card and the ability to transport up to 5 Tbps per slot, which enables a total system capacity of 1.2 Pbps in a multi-chassis configuration.
