Light Brigade, the education and training division of AFL, says that the FTTH Council Asia-Pacific has endorsed its “FTTx for Installers and Technicians” training program. The course is the first to pass the FTTH Council Asia-Pacific’s new endorsement procedure that aims to improve fiber-to-the-home (FTTx) training in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.

Dario De Paolis, vice president and general manager of Light Brigade, described the endorsement process as “very formal and rigorous” in an email to Lightwave.

The endorsed training sessions will improve workforce skills, productivity, and FTTH uptake throughout APAC, Light Brigade says. The four-day FTTx for Installers and Technicians course provides 16 hours of classroom lecture and 16 hours of hands-on training on such topics as testing splitters, WDM devices, measuring reflectance, and bidirectional testing that are unique to FTTx networks.

“Light Brigade’s FTTx for Installers and Technicians training program will support the FTTH Council Asia-Pacific’s charter to provide ongoing employability of people working in this industry within the APAC region,” explained De Paolis via a press release. “Our program ensures that the FTTH skills and qualifications of the region’s associates are consistent and reflect the needs of local telecommunication networks.”

The class is held at various times throughout the year in locations across APAC. This includes Light Brigade’s recently announced partnership with NeST Institute of Fiber Optic Technology Pvt. Ltd. (NIFOT; see “Light Brigade, NIFOT join for fiber-optic training in India”).
