Comcast Business fibers Cedar Crossing Industrial Park

Comcast Business, a division of cable MSO Comcast Corp. (NASDAQ: CMCSA, CMCSK), says it has extended its fiber-optic network into the Cedar Crossing Industrial Park in Baytown, TX. The manufacturing, distribution, logistics, and other businesses located in the park now have a new choice for scalable, high-performance Ethernet, Internet, Wi-Fi and advanced voice services, the operator says.

Comcast Business, a division of cable MSO Comcast Corp. (NASDAQ: CMCSA, CMCSK), says it has extended its fiber-optic network into the Cedar Crossing Industrial Park in Baytown, TX. The manufacturing, distribution, logistics, and other businesses located in the park now have a new choice for scalable, high-performance Ethernet, Internet, Wi-Fi and advanced voice services, the operator says.

Located across the Houston Ship Channel from the Barbours Cut and Bayport container terminals, Cedar Crossing Industrial Park is the world’s fifth-largest industry park and comprises 15,000 acres, 56 miles of rail with the storage capacity of 1750 rail cars, and a barge dock for transporting goods and containers from the Port of Houston. The location and access to major freeways, the Port of Houston, multiple rail lines, air transportation, and a pipeline distribution system, make it one of the largest intermodal logistics facilities in the world. Current Cedar Crossing tenants include warehousing, distribution, and logistics facilities for Walmart, Home Depot, GE, and Siemens, among others.

“With technology playing such a large part in how all industries conduct business these days, a diverse, high-capacity network infrastructure is increasingly a key deciding factor when companies are looking for a new location or expanding,“ said B.J. Simon, associate executive director for West Chambers County Economic Development Foundation. “By offering additional advanced data and voice services in the industrial park, we’ll be better equipped to attract new companies who understand the importance of network connectivity in today’s business landscape as well as to provide more options for current tenants.”

“Uniquely positioned as a premier logistics and distribution hub in the US, the Cedar Crossing Industrial Park is a growing cornerstone of our local economy,” said Stephen DonCarlos, Baytown’s mayor. “By improving the network infrastructure available to existing and prospective tenants, they will be able to attract even more jobs and diverse industries to the area. By adopting some of the best technology available today, local businesses will continue to thrive as bandwidth continues to increase in importance for companies of all types.”

Businesses in the industrial park will have access to a portfolio of Ethernet options from Comcast Business, including Ethernet Dedicated Internet, Ethernet Private Line, Ethernet virtual private line (VPL) and Ethernet network services that provide Internet access, point-to-point, and point-to-multipoint connectivity at bandwidth that scales up to 10 Gbps. Companies will also be able to deploy Comcast Business VoiceEdge, a cloud-based voice and unified communications service designed to help customers run a faster, more efficient business.
