ZTE preps 400G OTN transmission system

The new system is based on ZTE’s ZXONE 8000 large-capacity cross-connected equipment, which in turn is based on the iOTN platform, and the recently launched ZXONE 9700 Packet OTN platform (see "ZTE launches ZXONE 9700 packet-optical platform").

ZTE says the 400G OTN technology is designed for operators looking to advance their existing network infrastructure to optimize bandwidth and network management, as well as enhance their network flexibility. The Chinese vendor bills it as "the ideal backbone for metro/regional core infrastructure networks."

"Faced with the challenges of rapid traffic growth, high-bandwidth data center applications and cloud computing, carriers have increasingly been considering building large capacity, evolving and ‘elastic’ networks," said Wei Xiaoqiang, director of bearer network products, ZTE. "The ZTE 400G transmission equipment with multiple, adaptive modulations will be a must for all future networks."

ZTE’s 400G optical transmission equipment features multiple modulation schemes including Nyquist QPSK, 16QAM, and 8QAM, enabling it to meet carriers' requirements for different network scenarios and transmission reaches.

In addition, ZTE says its 400G OTN system supports software-defined networking (SDN) based on low-power chip sets designed in-house and advanced photonic components.

The new 400G OTN system will be commercially available in early 2015.
