Bluebird Network flies with ADVA 100G

Optical transport specialist ADVA Optical Networking says it will supply its 100G Core technology to Bluebird Network for a high-speed fiber-optic network that will connect major urban areas within Missouri.

Optical transport specialist ADVA Optical Networking says it will supply its 100G Core technology to Bluebird Network for a high-speed fiber-optic network that will connect major urban areas within Missouri.

The deployment, which primarily focuses on the corridor between Kansas City and St. Louis, is the latest in a seven-year relationship between Bluebird Network and ADVA (see, for example "Bluebird Network middle-mile network uses ADVA FSP 3000"). In addition to the new 100-Gbps technology, the carrier also has subscribed to ADVA’s Care program, which is designed to ensure quick response to network issues.

Integrated into ADVA's FSP 3000, the 100G Core technology leverages coherent receivers, low-noise amplification, and increased non-linear optical tolerance. It is distinct from the company's 100G Metro offering, which is based on direct detection rather than coherent transmission.

Headquartered in Columbia, MO, Bluebird Network supplies communication services via 6,000 miles of high-speed broadband and fiber-optic connections. The network offers more than 100 points of presence (POPs) across the Midwest, including such cities as Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City, Tulsa, Omaha, Des Moines, and Memphis. Bluebird has a national reach through its partner, INDATEL Group.
