Large US-based Web service provider deploys SDN via Aria Networks

Software-defined networking (SDN) platform vendor Aria Networks says that “one of the largest web service providers in the world” has deployed Aria’s iVNT capacity planning and orchestration software. The service provider, which Aria declined to identify further other than to say it was based in the United States, has seen significant cost savings from the move the SDN, reaching full return on investment within weeks, Aria asserts.

The service provider, which Aria declined to identify further other than to say it was based in the United States, has seen significant cost savings from the move the SDN, reaching full return on investment within weeks, Aria asserts.

The SDN deployment covers hundreds of core routers and thousands of router interfaces, Aria says. The service provider is using iVNT to model current capacity trends against capacity loading and future demand. This enables optimization of traffic and assets across any combination of networking, computing and storage, Aria asserts. The capacity planning and orchestration stretches across both IP and optical networks, Aria claims.

“iVNT enables this service provider to create an SDN, dynamically delivering the right capacity for demand and contingency and enabling this web service provider to schedule and route traffic to take advantage of under-utilized capacity. This will save the company many millions in infrastructure costs,” Aria CEO Tony Fallows said.

Aria Networks announced the latest version of iVNT for software-defined data centers last month.
