C Spire chooses ADTRAN for Mississippi gigabit network

Aug. 18, 2014
ADTRAN, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADTN) says its fiber-optic broadband platform has been chosen by C Spire for the carrier’s gigabit fiber to the home (FTTH) program in Mississippi.

ADTRAN, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADTN) says its fiber-optic broadband platform has been chosen by C Spire for the carrier’s gigabit fiber to the home (FTTH) program in Mississippi.

C Spire, a carrier best known for its wireless services, announced plans to offer symmetrical gigabit services to select communities in Mississippi. It has borrowed several elements of Google Fiber’s FTTH deployment strategy, from holding an RFI to solicit bids to be the first town served (see "C Spire names Get Fiber First finalists for 1-Gbps FTTH") as well as the “fiberhood” concept in which individual neighborhoods had to reach a sign-up threshold before services will be offered (see "C Spire opens FTTH pre-registration").

With FTTH fiber-optic network construction now underway (see "C Spire launches 1-Gbps FTTH network construction"), C Spire has announced ADTRAN as its fiber-optic broadband platform provider.

“ADTRAN provided the gigabit broadband infrastructure we needed to reinvent our network and helped us quickly go to market with the new service. This is enabling us to provide the ground work for our communities to build upon as they begin to transform into hubs of technology investment and economic growth,” said Suzy Hays, senior vice president of consumer markets for C Spire.

“C Spire and the residents, community leaders and local businesses in Mississippi have rallied together to create a vision for what fiber and ultra high-speed gigabit technology can do for a community. They’ve not only created an unbelievable amount of enthusiasm, but have opened the door to a new high-tech economic future for themselves,” said Mitch Fleming, regional vice president, sales, ADTRAN carrier networks division.
