French test and measurement equipment manufacturer Yenista Optics SA has opened a sales support and repair center in Newbury Park, CA. The vendor says the office will support the growing demand for its test equipment from semiconductor manufacturers developing silicon photonics technologies as well as the optical networking industry.

Yenista develops and sell tunable lasers, tunable filters and optical component test systems. Its latest product, an optical spectrum analyzer, has been a "game changer," the company asserts, providing extremely fast, high-resolution analysis with a modern, easy to use interface (see "Yenista unveils optical spectrum analyzer with gesture control").

The office will be headed by Lawrence van der Vegt, who brings 25 years’ experience in the fiber-optic industry. Lawrence was previously the test instrument division manager at Ando (now Yokogawa) and held senior positions in sales and marketing at Rifocs, a Greenlee Textron company, and 3M Photodyne.

"I am delighted to join Yenista," said van der Vegt. "There is growth in fiber-optic applications for high-speed telecom and datacom markets in North America. Yenista is a respected brand and has products with real advantages. I look forward to expanding Yenista activities in this region."
