While discussing Finisar’s first quarter 2015 performance and lukewarm second quarter expectations (see "Finisar predicts revenue growth run to end this quarter"), company management revealed that they had acquired privately held LightSmyth Technologies. Eugene, OR-based LightSmyth provides gratings and offers fabrication services based on its nanophotonics expertise.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

LightSmyth had been providing gratings for Finisar’s wavelength-selective switch (WSS) products. Finisar CEO Eitan Gertel told attendees on an analyst call last night that he expects LightSmyth’s products to find their way into other Finisar products. Finisar CFO Kurt Adzema indicated that LightSmyth likely will continue to supply products to other companies.

Gertel said the acquisition would not materially affect Finisar’s revenues or earnings per share.

LightSmyth’s products include premium transmission gratings, pulse compression transmission gratings, and nanopatterned silicon stamps. The company also offers coating services, dicing services, and SEM imaging services. In addition to telecom, the company serves the medical and defense markets.
