The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) has created the International Society of Broadband Experts (ISBE), a global brand for training and certification resources to serve cable engineering and operations professionals worldwide.

ISBE, which will serve as an international gateway to SCTE’s library of educational and certification resources, is intended to eliminate brand confusion and provide a single, unified source of education and training materials to the cable community. SCTE materials available through ISBE are created in conjunction with cable operators in the United States and other markets worldwide, and are aligned with the global R&D activity of CableLabs.

"Cable system operators around the world face a universal challenge: the need to make sure that their workforces are prepared for the new technologies that are on the horizon," said Mark Dzuban, president and CEO of SCTE. "ISBE will bridge gaps in existing training curricula, bringing state-of-the-art content that is fine-tuned to address industry needs to cable engineering and operations professionals in every market."

In related news, SCTE announced that Liberty Global has become the first international operator to join the SCTE Corporate Alliance Program. The program enables operators of all sizes to address industry issues, develop a response and prepare for emerging technologies, and expand access to training and education. Liberty Global will access educational material and other resources via the ISBE brand.

"Consumer demand for next-generation services is driving the need for increased training and certification for our technical workforce," said Balan Nair, executive vice president and CTO of Liberty Global. "The International Society of Broadband Experts’ ability to leverage SCTE resources will make available new training that is aligned with our operational needs."
