Optical transport systems vendor Transmode has deployed its EMXP 220 IIe, a packet-optical transport switch with the help of local partner Nera Networks in the network of Malaysian carrier's carrier Fiberail. Fiberail's new 100-Gbps capable fiber-optic network offers high-capacity connectivity to Tier 1 and Tier 2 service providers in the country.

The upgrade will enable Fiberail to increase network capacity and service offerings, particularly in the northern half of Malaysia, Transmode says. Fiberail will use the EMXP 220 to support 10-Gbps services initially, with the ability to upgrade to 100 Gbps as required by adding 100G CFP pluggable optics to the system’s line cards. The platform will enable Fiberail to offer a variety of services, including MEF Carrier Ethernet 2.0 services as well as MPLS-TP and Optical Transport Network (OTN) transport.

The service provider also will benefit from the robustness of Ethernet Ring Protection Version 2 (ERPv2), support of both Layer 1 and Layer 2 packet optical applications, and end-to-end Ethernet service provisioning across the Transmode network and third-party Layer 1 optical equipment, Transmode adds.

Local partner Nera Networks is a regional systems integrator. "We are delighted to be working with Nera Networks to announce that Fiberail, as a longstanding customer, continues to invest in its network and has upgraded its network with Transmode's latest 100G packet-optical technology," commented Mark Stevens, Transmode's vice president Asia-Pacific. "This deployment is an excellent example of how Transmode is helping our customers to cost-effectively grow their businesses."
