3SAE Technologies, which specializes in fiber-optic preparation tools and glass processing equipment, says it has expanded its custom and standard fiber splicing and glass processing services. The company says it now has a proprietary splicing service for soft-glass micro-fiber diameters ranging from 80 µm to less than 25 µm.

The new capabilities target applications involving micro-diameter fibers, which previously required customized approaches that only achieved marginal compatibility, according to Clyde Troutman, engineering manager for 3SAE.

3SAE adds that it develops, patents, and manufactures the majority of the equipment used in its production labs, which it asserts enables the company to deliver high-quality results in a cost-effective and timely manner. Services offered range in complexity from standard SMF/PM spliced assemblies to process-intensive optical components such as fused fiber bundles, optical combiners, mode field adapters, end caps, ball lenses, fiber attenuators, soft glass, and micro-diameter fusion splicing.

The company also offers services for research and development, proof of concept, prototyping, and low volume production.
