OZ Optics' optical taps, power monitors now Telcordia GR-468 qualified

OZ Optics says it has completed Telcordia testing of its line of optical taps and power monitors for telecommunication applications. The products, which include taps built with ordinary singlemode fiber and with polarization maintaining (PM) fibers, are now certified as meeting the requirements of Telcordia standard GR-468, "Generic Reliability Assurance Requirements for Optoelectronic Devices Used in Telecommunications Equipment."

OZ Optics says it has completed Telcordia testing of its line of optical taps and power monitors for telecommunication applications. The products, which include taps built with ordinary singlemode fiber and with polarization maintaining (PM) fibers, are now certified as meeting the requirements of Telcordia standard GR-468, "Generic Reliability Assurance Requirements for Optoelectronic Devices Used in Telecommunications Equipment."

The company has targeted the devices for use in optical amplifiers, DWDM systems, and FTTX networks for real-time monitoring and feedback.

OZ Optics says the inline taps are manufactured using a novel patented design that permits full automation, and therefore reduced manufacturing costs. The inline taps can be directly integrated into fiber pigtail assemblies for packaging devices that rely on optical feedback. The main device and the monitor photodiode can be packaged in a single housing, which reduces both size and costs, the company points out.

The optical power monitors, meanwhile, combine the optical tap design with a photodiode in a single package. The device produces a current proportional to the optical power within the fiber. The small size and simple interface makes it very easy to design into optical hardware, OZ Optics adds.
