US Internet has launched what it asserts is the world's first 10-Gbps broadband access offering in Minneapolis, MN. The company will charge its residential and small business customers $399 a month for the service.

"US Internet has long advocated for small business owners and residential customers that they deserve the same broadband as Fortune 100 companies," stated Joe Caldwell, co-CEO of US Internet. "With our new fiber network, we have redefined what is considered broadband Internet and taken our speed capabilities to next-gen levels, resulting in the fastest Internet service the world has ever seen for home users. Now, Minneapolis residents will have more Internet bandwidth in their houses than some countries have serving their entire country."

While the company didn't reveal how the 10-Gbps service is provided, US Internet likely is using its existing fiber to the premises (FTTP) network, which has rolled out through parts of the city. The company installed Active Ethernet equipment from ZyXEL Communications on the FTTP network in 2012 (see "US Internet deploys ZyXEL Active Ethernet gear for FTTH"). The company promises additional fiber-optic network roll outs in 2015.
