AT&T launches 1-Gbps FTTH in Cupertino

AT&T says it has launched its 1-Gbps U-verse with AT&T GigaPower service in Cupertino, CA. In addition to faster broadband via the fiber to the home (FTTH) service, customers also will receive faster Wi-Fi, thanks to an upgraded residential gateway.

AT&T says it has launched its 1-Gbps U-verse with AT&T GigaPower service in Cupertino, CA. In addition to faster broadband via the fiber to the home (FTTH) service, customers also will receive faster Wi-Fi, thanks to an upgraded residential gateway.

The new capabilities are available in "eligible areas" of the city. AT&T did not announce the locations of those areas.

The Tier 1 carrier says it will offer three classes of service:

  1. U-verse High Speed Internet Premier will offer Internet only connections at the "up to" 1-Gbps speed starting at $110 a month, or speeds of 300 Mbps for $80 a month, with a one year price guarantee.
  2. U-verse High Speed Internet Premier + TV adds video services alongside the 1-Gbps broadband starting at $150 a month, or with the 300 Mbps at $120 a month, also with a one year price guarantee.
  3. U-verse High Speed Internet Premier + TV + Voice completes the triple-play offering. Internet speeds up to 1 Gbps with qualifying TV service and Unlimited U-verse Voice started at $180 a month; with 300-Mbps data rates, the price begins at $150 a month. Both offerings come with a two-year price guarantee.

AT&T originally launched its 1-Gbps FTTH-enabled broadband service in Austin, TX (see "AT&T completes gigabit upgrade for Austin customers"). The service provider expanded its roster of 1-Gbps markets to include Dallas, Fort Worth, Kansas City, Raleigh-Durham and Winston-Salem. AT&T also has announced plans to bring the service to Atlanta; Charlotte and Greensboro, NC; Chicago; Houston; Jacksonville and Miami, FL; Nashville; St. Louis; and San Antonio. It also says it will offer the service to an additional 2 million customers should it succeed in its proposed acquisition of DIRECTV.
