CoAdna Photonics, Inc. has unveiled a series of compact wavelength-selective switch (WSS) modules aimed at metro/edge ROADMs. The new line offers port counts between three and five.

The WSS units aim to serve the need to incorporate ROADM capabilities into systems with small shelves and designed for low cost. The modules leverage CoAdna's Gen-2 LightFlow switch engine technology and support the key features needed in next generation ROADM networks, including flexible spectrum, the company asserts.

"Cost and size are the two main factors that obstruct the ROADM's fast expansion into the edge networks. CoAdna's compact series of WSS modules are designed and produced to open up this bottleneck. Applying years of advancements of our liquid crystal based LightFlow technologies, we redesigned the compact series of WSS modules for the best cost-performance in addition to the compact size," said Dr. Jim Yuan, CEO of CoAdna.

"CoAdna's WSS modules have been very competitive in the market for its superb reliability, performance, cost, lowest power consumption, and compact size. The compact series will push this to the next level of success," Dr. Yuan predicted.

The company will display the new WSS modules, as well as its other offerings, at Booth #1325 at OFC 2015 in Los Angeles Convention Center, March 24-26, 2015.
