MRV Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: MRVC) says it has added dynamic wavelength routing capabilities to its flagship OptiDriver platform, a move it says will help the system meet service provider needs for flexible networking.

The software-based dynamic wavelength routing feature enables wavelengths to move flexibly across reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) networks. MRV says dynamic optical routing is particularly useful in ring and mesh networks where demands are large and unpredictable due to redundant paths to multiple locations or multiple links between locations.

The new capabilities mesh with MRV's Pro-Vision service provisioning and management software, which is designed to enable remote point-and-click service turn up and circuit reconfiguration. The OptiDriver now becomes an even better building block for optical software-defined networking (SDN), MRV asserts. The result is swifter time-to-revenue, reduced operational expenses, increased service velocity, and improved ROI, the company adds.

"MRV provides the intelligence to simplify optical network deployments and operations so customers can maximize network and service resiliency. The addition of dynamic wavelength routing to our OptiDriver portfolio reflects our ongoing progress in optical transport solutions and our ability to meet the needs of today's erratic network environments," said Eli Laufer, vice president, Global Research & Development at MRV Communications.
