Shandong Electric Power Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of the State Grid Corporation of China, has selected Coriant to support an end-to-end upgrade of its packet transport network (PTN), according to the optical transport systems vendor. Coriant will supply its 7090 Packet Transport Platform for the network upgrade, which should see Shandong Electric Power save more than 25% in operational expenses and up to 30% in capital expenses, the systems house asserts.
Shandong Electric Power is upgrading its access, aggregation, and core networks. The upgrade aims to increase network efficiency and service assurance for delay-sensitive utility communications traffic and applications, including supervisory control data, real-time grid monitoring, videoconferencing and surveillance, private line, and voice.
The network will support a variety of different traffic types, including Carrier Ethernet, MPLS-TP, PTN, Optical Transport Network (OTN), and WDM. The simplified and rapid provisioning that enhanced network management offers will reduce operational expenses, Coriant adds.
