ADVA Optical Networking has extended the security capabilities of its metro platforms with the introduction of its ConnectGuard offering. The line comprises a pair of offerings, one for optical layer security, the other for Carrier Ethernet.

ConnectGuard Optical is a rebranding of the 100-Gbps optical layer security ADVA previously announced for its FSP 3000 packet-optical transport system (see "ADVA Optical Networking offers 100G encryption for metro networks"). The company expects ConnectGuard Optical to prove popular in dark fiber and carrier leased-line applications for data center interconnectivity at data rates from 10 Gbps to 100 Gbps (and, eventually, beyond).

New with the introduction of the ConnectGuard brand is a line of security-enabled FSP 150 platforms that form the basis of ConnectGuard Ethernet. The new FSP 150-GE110Pro series platforms, slated to become available in the second half of this year, provide end-to-end business Ethernet and related virtual private network (VPN) service protection based on an enhanced version of MACSec. They are designed for links operating at 10 Mbps and below.

Michael Ritter, vice president, technical marketing and analyst relations at ADVA, stressed that the ConnectGuard line offers more than encryption. Key management, vulnerability management, and tamper protection are cornerstones of the offering, he explained.
